American Specialty Health – Internal Communications

American Specialty Health – Internal Communications

An important aspect of American Specialty Health’s company culture are the social events hosted for employees. It’s a regular job of the marketing team to design promotional materials for these seasonal events.

ASH Events

ASH hosts an annual picnic for employees and their families, for each of the 5 company locations. While these events are held at different times and may vary slightly from location to locations, ASH keeps a common annual theme to maintain company culture/unity. These are a sample of the materials developed for the 2019 “Island Paradise” picnics.

ASH hosts an annual, company-wide Holiday Luncheon after its annual Year-in-Review all-staff meeting. Within the same week the CEO hosts a holiday part at his home for manager and executive leaders. As with most internal events, the marketing team is tasked with developing all promotional materials for these company events.

Informational Materials

Relaxation Room – Old Suite
At most ASH locations the company provides a Relaxation Room for employees to take a short break to unwind during the day. The Relaxation Room is meant for those times you need to step away after finishing with a hard or need a moment to refocus yourself other than at your desk. ASH’s marketing department received a request for a new sign for the room, but upon reviewing the current signage we returned to the internal client with a pitch to update the entire suite.

Relaxation Room – New Suite

The new suite of materials was built to consolidate the information down to a few pieces. Previously there were too many posters, which had been built piecemeal over the years, making it hard for the user to know where to look. The information of these posters were distilled down to a bifold to sit on the coffee table, a single poster on the wall within the room, and a dedicated advertisement poster to be placed around the office buildings.

Additionally, we worked with the copy-writing team to pare down the wording and better reinforce the atmosphere of the Relaxation Room. Even if a material was meant to dissuade employees from misusing the room or its amenities, such as not removing or “borrowing” equipment from the room, our goal was keep the copy as positive as possible and therefore the user experience as positive as possible.

Fill Up One Cup Project

The head of the health coaches for ASH’s Healthyroads program came to the marketing team with a request for materials to support her team for an upcoming changes to their nutrition guidelines. Starting spring of 2019 Healthyroads would transitioning to a ‘one cup’ recommendation as the serving size for most fruits and veggies. To remind their team of these new guidelines, the head health coach requested posters for their floor as well as individual desk cards for each coach.

Concepting
To start the process, I used the desk cards to flesh out multiple concepts for the overall design. There wasn’t a need to conform to company brand standards, and it was even requested for these materials to be fairly casual. With that I decided to develop illustration-based concepts and a relaxed photo concept.

Final Materials
Once a concept was chosen, I then reinterpreted the design for the 24x36” posters to be hung on the health coaches work floor.

Other Miscellaneous Communications

ASH’s marketing team handles a wide range of internal communications materials. The following are a selection of one-off designs created for various company announcements. I handled these projects from concept to completion. Depending on the project it may be compositing elements provided by clients, creating mockups of articles on mobile or in print, as well as vector work.
